Purpose
The Texas Authors Museum & Institute of History launched the “Voices of America: 250 Years of Storytelling” short story contest to honor the United States' Semiquincentennial by inviting writers to reflect on the nation's complex identity through fiction. Aligned with the museum’s mission to preserve and promote literary voices, this contest seeks to amplify diverse perspectives that have shaped—and continue to shape—the American narrative. By encouraging stories that explore themes such as the American Dream, marginalized voices, and future visions of the country, the initiative fosters a rich tapestry of storytelling that celebrates both heritage and hope. The resulting anthology, set for release in May 2026, will serve as a literary tribute to 250 years of American independence, culminating in a national celebration on July 4, 2026.
Introduction
Founded in 2014 by visionary B. Alan Bourgeois, the Texas Authors Institute of History, Inc. (TAIH) stands as the first museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the legacy of Texas authors. By honoring over 200 years of literary contributions and supporting contemporary voices, TAIH bridges the past, present, and future of Texas literature under one roof, ensuring that the stories of Texas authors are never forgotten.
